Re: What We Carried
In Response To: What We Carried ()

The St. Chris Medal was standard issue. I worn one around my neck that my sister had given me and I had a plastic one that my father carried in WW II. I always had my compass and strobe light. Never worn a "chicken plate". It was to hard to move and if I had to get out of the ship I didn't want the damn thing slowing me down. I worn a slave bracelet a LRRP gave me on one of our hot extractions. He was so happy to get out of there and it was the only thing of valve he had he gave it to me. Still have the damn thing. Kept a sandbag in the rear battery compartment with half a dozen C-Ration meals. Two canteens. One with water and the other with Kool-Aid. My .45 and knife. And lots of cigarettes. If I had to walk out of some place at least I was going to have smokes. The most important thing was a big plastic spoon I carried in the sleeve of my flight jacket. With that I could eat the C-Rats.
