Guns and Grunts

T.A.N.B.

I remember on more than one occaision when the Crocs were in very close ground support of troops, we would be so low and slow we could see the bad guys raise up and shoot at us, I never thought was very smart, because almost without exception, we would nail them, and sometimes the troops on the ground would start screaming at us that we were firing on them, and in reality we were so low and slow it was just our empty brass falling on them and bouncing off their steel pots, and on a few occaisions we were firing inside their perimeter because they were being overrun. Firing for troops on the ground at night was always scary because it was difficult to know for sure, where the bad guys were, and where the good guys were and it was very difficult to convince the grunts to pop flares to mark the perimeter, when the bad guys were all around.
I could always tell how serious the contact was at night, when I would tell the grunt "6" that I was going home if I could'nt have flares!!!!

Tough Times!!!!!!
