In Response To: Texas ()

Mark, the whole thing worked out very well.

They started with a reception at a local restaurant Friday night, then the seminar programs on Saturday. Wound up with a Texas barbeque in the local CAF wing's hangar on Saturday night. Dinner surrounded by warbirds, haven't done that since Pleiku. All of our absent friends were always remembered first and well.

The seminar went great. For a quick look (put together by Wallace Craig, who organized the thing) go to : http://www.biggolddog.com/seminar.htm

They put it on in the main hangar of the Confederate Air Force, where they are working on the last flying B-29, "Fi-Fi." Had my picture taken in the right seat.

The movie of "We Were Soldiers Once... and Young" is going full bore, Joe Galloway is very happy with it. They just finished filming at Ft Benning, and they are moving to an Army base in CA to start the combat footage. Mel Gibson is (then) LTC Hal Moore, Sam Elliott is playing SGM Basile Plumley, and Greg Kinnear is doing Bruce Crandall. Crandall and Galloway both like Mel Gibson and Randy Wallace a lot, and they both think that the two of them are really trying to do the right thing. Talked quite a bit with Bruce Crandall, he is doing a lot of advising during the shooting in both places, and he is very happy with the way it is going.

One thing they all say is, "Remember, it's not a documentary."

Sounds to me like it might be really good.

Remember that the war in 1965 was very different from the war of 1968, and that different from 1970.
