Bilbee, I feel awful about this, but I simply cannot picture you. (C'mon. Leave me alone.) Nothing. Blank. Very few others I know I ought to remember also.

I remember Fall of 68, wrenching in Dak To, Jimmy Johnson, Lammers, Frakes, all the others... the LRRP Bar... like yesterday.

Bon Bon (my AC on 834), Bobby Copher, Eggy, Ti-ti, Shifty..., that effing Davis, I loved that SOB... Shakey, Jake, Silk... Touchstone... Birkhoff... Dominic "Dum-dum" Tuminello, what a good guy... I only forgot about 50 other great guys... March, April, in the Plei Trap and heading for An Khe after that, I remember. Some of An Khe, okay, I got it. After my r&r in like late April, early May... I came back and my ship was gone, rolled while I was in Bangkok, I just don't have it on file.

I just don't remember much at all about my last three or four months there. I think I was so damned scared...

You know what... I don't remember leaving? Nothing. Whew.

Prolly your fault, huh?

If I had it to do over, knowing what I know now, I should have stayed, dumb as that might sound. I know more guys would have come home had I stayed, knowing what I knew, by the end of the year, and good as we were at what we did. Too bad. But we really did get so's we were pretty good at it, you know it?
