Re: My first bus ride in country.....

Puddin,
You got to ride on a bus? I feel cheated! We were put on a duce and a half. No body in the back but us new guys.
Here we were ridding from the Air Force Base at Plei Ku, no top over the back, eating what I finally found out would be common, red dust, with empty weapons. Boy, what a field day they could have had. You know they could tell we didn't have any ammo. No clips and nearly ever one of the FNGs
were holding those rifles barrel up on their leg. You could tell the damn things were empty. I told the ones on each side of me to put them down before we all got the hell blown out of us.
Anyway, talk about urban renewal. I'd seen better out houses! A corrugated community. Damn, where am I at and what am I doin' here? Plei Ku was a real trip! People sqauttin' and using the JOHN in the gutter along the street. Pull up one leg of those PJ's and let er' rip! No concern about people passing or anything. DAMN, and I'm gonna' be here for 12 mos. I found out it was a little better at Holloway. At least we waited till it got dark and we were good and drunk before we sprayed the sandbags. Well, other than the smell in country, I can't think of anything else I might have learned to polish my social skill for re-entry to the USA.
