Just before I left the 545th two or three guys had gotten smaller planes. That was the one thing about mainentance was you got the day off after guard duty. Once you made E-5 you only pulled Sgt. of the Guard. So you would get one day or two off a week. During the day the Flight Line was deserted. The area in front of the old hangar was blacktop so it made a great runway.

One guy in sheet metal was always buying and crashing those things. He was from Hawaii but alot of people though the was a gook. I think his first name was Harry.

Pilots had days off if they weren't flying. The enlisted had to hide in order to stay off some detail. Even if the ship was down for mainentance the crewchief had things to do on the ship. I keep off details I would flying. That's how much I loved to fly and how much I hated details. The other big hobby was cameras. And of course drinking.
