James P. Sempek. He was my gunner from Aug. 68 to Nov.68. We caught what ever it was during a SOG mission near Hotel 9. It was either a RPG or possible air burst. Don't know which. It got his foot pretty good but he did fly the next day. It was a Saturday so that meant steak fry at FOB II. It took the end cap off the skid and they had it replaced that night.

Our last mission together was Nov. 11 1968 when we lost Gator 371. Got shot up pretty good not far from where Baby Huey got blasted. He decided to become a crewchief so he could get E-5. I know he was on his second enlistment and had maybe five years to pull. He did live in the Chicago area but I was unable to find him after the service. He loved cameras. He mounted a movie camera in an ammo box and had it strapped to the gun mount. The first time he used it was the day we lost 371. Never did find the ammo box. It might have had some good stuff on it.
