We pulled flare and gun duty every third week. The 170th and 189th got it the other weeks. If we were on 100% alert the flare ship flew. The firefly was kind of Helter Skelter somebody would get a bug and we would have to provide a second slick for it. I remember the damn thing never fit right in the door. If the operator wasn't careful and he moved it the wrong way the light would reflect back into the ship. Like Bob said they would mount it on the left side of the ship and the light was hot as hell. It seemed like I would have guard and than the next night I would have flare duty. It wasn't bad in 1968 because the company area was right by the "Hot Spot" so you could sneak back to your hootch if you wanted something but after we moved to the new area you were stuck there for the night. I don't remember AnKhe but I was then in the Crocs and we had just got there. I was only there about 45 days before I DEROSED.
