Took some shrapnel in the tail boom one time from rockets punched under me by C-models, maybe Crocs, maybe Cougars --- but the alternative was some little guys in khaki who ran into the LZ as we wuz departing and tried to lob grenades through the cargo doors. They were coming from behind us, and the crew didn't see 'em: but the gunnies did.

Cobras always operated too high to really do us any good with close-in support; but they worked the Hunter/Killer thing to perfection. Their call-sign was Yellow Scarf, I think. Loaches hovering around the tree tops trying to draw out sniper fire; and popping smoke to id the source for the snakes. They had a lot of fire power, and when delivered properly, they could put some hurt on Chuck and his northern cousins.

But they were at their best at emplacements, and mounted weaponry. Much better, in my estimation, in this role than fast movers: they were slow enough and could walk their ordnance right up Charles', uh, self.
