Man what a deal, sure wish I could get one that cheap now. That's probably the same M2, but I haven't the foggiest idea how it got to where your buddy found it . It was a real fire hose and I always wondered what happened to it. I'm glad you got some comfort out of owning it, and thank you for the gunsmithing compliment.
I've still got a little piece of that carbine. I kept the piece of barrel that I cut off and designed and built a muzzle loading pistol out of it in the old 545th machine shop van behind the hangers during the summer and fall of '67. I smuggled it home in an 8mm movie camera with fake "accessories".
