In Aug thru Sept 1968 we flew out of FOB II near Kontum. They divided the flight platoons into two groups. "Alpha" would fly the northern missions into Laos. "Bravo" flew the missions into Cambadia. They rotated us every two weeks. We would have five ships for each mission plus the "Crocs" for cover. We would land at their compound. Alpha on one side,Bravo on the other. The "Crocs" would land over at Kontum and the C&C ship for the flight that day would ferry them between the two areas. The one landmark I will never forget in Laos was "Hotel 9". Got shot out of that place several times. Most of the time in Cambodia we would drop they near some river just the other side of the Plei-Trap valley. We did pull a couple of night extractions near Hotel 9 that got pretty wild. The best thing about flying those missions were the Saturday night steak frys. Also playing football in the compound using the helicopters as the out of bounds lines.
