Hi, Gang -
Does anyone who was there in late '70 recall having a visit either at "work" or in the hootch (as I was) by several guys in clean, bare (NO
insignia or anything) green jungle fatigues? I remember that they were all fit, tall, Anglo, and very clean-cut ("supersoldier"-types- the kind who would have been selected as Supernumerary on ANY guard mount)
These guys were recruiting short-timers to contract to stay on after DEROS if they were due to ETS on return to CONUS.These gentlemen, best I can recall, offered $1500/mo. for crewchiefs and gunners, with a BIG sign-on bonus (don't recall how many $$), and the promise of a 30-day vacation
(wherever you'd like) and free roundtrip ticket, IF you would return after the vacation..
No, I did not dream this, and I was not under any influence (at that particular time) other than just the routine fatigue we all endured... and I remember they asked for me by name... and I was just an Avionics Nav Radio Tech...maybe it was because of my security clearance) I declined, thank you VERY MUCH...
Who WERE those guys ?????
Lump
p.s. Carl Th'Duke - I'll send you an email tonite with names, addesses and phone numbers of the "local" Gators/Crocs I've reached... more to follow....
