I know we had a FEW "snoop and poopers" WAY out there even in the mid-fifties. When with my father on Okinawa in the late fifties, although I was in grade school, I remember the scuttlebutt about MAAG assignments to Thailand and Laos, involving GIs, 3rd MAR DIV, and others not further identified..

My son was born a two-month preemie at William Beaumont Army Hospital in '74, and in intensive care for three weeks. Almost living there, I got to know pretty well an NICU male nurse 1Lt. who
cared for him; he related that in the mid-50s he was a medic for a US recon team operating in the Laos Highlands (what wasn't "highlands" there?).
I don't know his ethnic origin, but he was small and dark-skinned, and may have been Nung, Rhade, Jarai, or ??

He said that they all carried Soviet or Chicom weapons, had NO traces of the US on their persons, even down to the filling compounds in their teeth.
He said that if they had fillings, they were replaced with silver amalgam of Soviet or Chinese manufacture. He told me some hair-raising tales of ambushes of the Viet Minh, and I saw no reason for him to misrepresent anything to me...it gives a whole new meaning to the Viet phrase "Sat Cong".

I ran into him again at Walter Reed in '86 or '88, and this time he was a LTC, Medical Corps
I'd really like to talk with him now, but lost touch.
