Re: Thought on Memorial Day
In Response To: Thought on Memorial Day ()

Someone once wrote " No man is truly dead until he is forgotten". By honoring our fallen comrads and friends on Memorial Day we keep their memory alive. Web sites like this one also keep memories and history alive. The history belongs to everyone, the memories to us. At work recently a co-worker (about 30 yrs old) heard me talking about a man I knew from the "old neighborhood" in Chicago. He was one of the surviors of the Battan Death March of WWII. The co-worker remarked that he never heard of the Death March.....Sad,..he was well educated (college grad) and a nice guy. Seems that the history books overlooked a few facts and events in history. Hopefully future generations won't have the same response when they hear the names of places like IDRANG, PLEIKU, KONTUM, HAPPY VALEY or DAK TO.
Everyone have a safe Memorial Day Weekend.
