Tom Lumpkin

Lumpy,

I am very sorry we did not get hooked up. I did get your voice messages but I did not have your number with me so I was not able to give you a call. I just got your last message when I pulled in here at home. I did not have the phone on while on the ride back (can't hear it on the bike).

Billy and I went right into DC in the morning instead of riding in with the run. It took Tom until about 1600 just to get over to where we were and then he, his wife, my friend Billy and I walked the wall. Right after that we all hit the road home as it looked like it was about to pour down rain.

In between all of this.... Billy and I were walking around the Lincoln Memorial when I saw a mother panicking over her son. Apparently while she and her friend were talking her son (about 5) choked on a hot dog. He had already passed out in his stroller. I worked on him for about 5 minutes, some back blows and the Heimlich and was able to get the hot dog out. I helped the EMT's get him on oxygen and they transported him to the hospital. The mother was a wreck. I caught up with the EMT later and he said the kid was going to be fine. He was still pretty lethargic when I handed him over, but he was breathing OK. Don't quote me on this but I remember being told once that hot dogs are a major cause of small children choking. All that good meet and they make you choke too ??? Go figure....

We will need to put together some better plans the next time I come down so I can make sure we get to meet.

Your friend.
