Re: Virus Warning
In Response To: Virus Warning ()

I have sent a couple of emails to Mike without getting any response; my guess is he dealing with a dead or almost-totally crippled computer.

At this point, the thing for all of us to remember is that anybody can get one of these email worms. What many of them do is read either your address book or your inbound email files, then without your knowledge send a bogus message with the worm attached to all the addresses it finds on your disk.

Point is, do not totally trust emails even from familiar senders, because somebody may have stolen their address. If the Subject line looks sort of strange, it probably is. Be especially careful of any attachments, and NEVER open a ".ZIP" file from anyone you have not discussed that file with in advance. In other words, if I have not emailed you ahead of time and said I was sending you a "zipped" file, DO NOT OPEN THE DAMNED THING.

...sorry.

Many times, if an attachment looks suspect to me, I will download to a floppy on my A: drive, check it with the virus software, then (when the virus software says it is infected, as it usually is) I just eject the disk and trash it.

Let's be careful out there.
