The abandonment and scorn was also felt by the wives and children. That's why military families feel "at home" with others in the military community. This group understands things and peculiarities that have shaped our actions that civilians just don't.

I tried dating someone who I found out was a draft dodger..dumped him right away. Yuk.

Many families have been destroyed by PTSD/etc. The loss of a close relative in war ...either a physical loss or "mental loss" has left many family members with grief they have yet to deal with... PTSD effects hit us pretty hard, too.

Slowly, though, some of us are learning to deal with it all. This reunion was one more step in healing for more than just the men. MB and I both dealt with some "triggers" during the reunion.

Can't help but wonder if more family "attached" or "detached" members came to a simular event if they would get some of the buried issues out that need addressing.

Unfortunately, many of the wives and children don't get in on this cause they are no longer with the military person, themselves.

Ah well..this is another bump in life that, I guess, just goes with the whole military scene. Still the greatest bunch of people in the world to know or be around. Thanks to everyone, and especially Dave, for letting me share such a great week-end with ya'll.
