On the night of the sapper attack, 15 Nov, 69 I was CQ and when the shit hit the fan someone shot the lock off the armory door and started handing out weapons. I can't remember who but we damn near killed each other in the confusion. As CQ I was allowed to have my assigned weapon, the trusty M-60, and remember low crawling in the ditch behind the orderly room to take a shot at a sniper in the tower at the old Mike Force area. By the time I edged my way down the ditch the sniper was long gone. Probably a good thing cause he would probably have had me in his sights. I distinctly remember that the inside of the perimeter at An Khe was a hell of a lot more vegitated than the outside. No Cav guys to keep the weeds down! Sorry Bob! Remember doing a sweep inside after the attack, so many tunnels and so few of us! We were lucky Sir Charles didn't have time to finish what he started. Makes me wonder how we survived all the B.S. and remained relatively same...I said relatively Carl.
