"Secure Weapons"

Flight,(Lumpy)

Due to popular demand I thought it best to respond to just what happened that night. Willie, if I get any of details mixed up feel free to chime in (like you woulden't anyway).

It was December 31st 1966 and most of the flight crews were off. If this isn't a sign for impending disastor I don't know what is but we were doing what CE's do second best, getting DRUNK. At the stroke of midnight the NVA decided to attack Holloway from the Air or at least that is what I thought since that is where everyone else was shooting. Using all the skills the Army tought me I armed myself with several clips and a fully automatic M14. Out the door I went to defend Camp Holloway. Several clips later I/we returned to the Hootch after deciding that we were not under attack and began, what else Drinking. All of a sudden several Officers burst into the Hooch for a weapons check. I think it was Dick Tracey who almost burnt his hand on the Hot Barrel (what Idiot picks up a rifle by the Barrel) when looking for one that was recently fired. Major Edwards was looking for a Pig to roast but there was not a CE in the Hootch that was giving up anyone.

There were reports that the controll tower was receiving fire and had to evacuated and several aircraft in the pattern reported receiving fire from the compound. Boys will be boys.

The 119th CE's were and are the greatest. They would go to the WALL for each other if need be.
