ON THINNEST WINGS

On thinnest wings come those who dare to heed our hollow lie,
Unspoken truth is fear of death and prayer for a slick filled sky.

Eleven bravo to UH-1... The LZ is clear we swear,
On thinnest wings and knowing truth come those who really care.

From a socked-in field in a far away place comfort for risk is exchanged,
And aircraft procedures and protocol are in effigy soon to be hanged.

Over the noise of battles in progress, rotor blades can be heard.
And many times the enemy routed by, the grunt protecting bird.

Thirty years later as Life-Flight goes by, the product of all the above.
The citizens for whom all this was done still keep from soldiers love.

On thinnest wings of metal birds did many a grunt rely.
Oh how I wish I could thank them ALL before the day I die.
