Re: Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm

THANKS, Bro Dave.

'Bout time they started thinkin about some of this stuff.

I got an ARCOM for my RVN service, and didn't know until 1985. In toto, awarded it five times during my career. The mere fact that the FIRST was not in my records may well have prejudiced my promotion progression, and selection for schools, etc.

I was put in for the Legion of Merit once for the successful completion of a special project which took five months, and my boss, a LTC, also was recommended for it. He WAS awarded the LoM, (he only had one prior ARCOM, and I had four) and mine was downgraded to an Impact ARCOM, pinned on by my wife and a two-star... The dunderheads may have treated it differently if my records had been administratively correct and complete. Oh,well....

My father-in-law passed away in March of this year, and received his PH for 6Jun44 (combat medic at Normandy) just a month before his passing. It was only at the insistence of his son that the guys downtown finally got the ball rolling. I just don't think "Dad" even knew it when he finally got it.

Damned shame.
