In Response To: Re: eBay ()

I dunno, Bob- I never "moved" with the company.

I also dunno who "owned" the ASM-190 vans mounted on the two 'deuces at the Holloway Avionics shop, but they were organic to somebody- likely no more than one per company, but (??) if I remember right, these vans were "complete" AvEl vans, except for room to stock all authorized spares. Seems one may have been "the shop" on wheels, and the other was PLL (if it has been too long since AIT, Gents, that's Prescribed Load List- complete tools, equipment and parts for each major end item) and paperwork, and a little "float" (spare units). I do remember that in addition to the two vans, we had about six or eight conexes (formed the major portion of the outer walls to the runway-side and rear-additions to the Quonset) FULL of stuff- made a great buffer zone when rockets and mortar rounds came close.

I may have a pic or two of the 'deuces, in that these trucks got torn up in the 6Mar70 mortar barrage in the Avionics shop/commo/sheetmetal/ armaments/hangar area, and I took a lot of pics the next morning. Remme Rook. Bumper numbers don't lie- unless of course, the vehicles in question were "hot".. hehe.. who, me??

I DO remember a jeep turning up at Holloway with a 106mm recoilless mounted on it- supposedly liberated from 4ID- and I heard it was later de-liberated without the "piece" on it. That was after stories travelled around Holloway about tanks (not ours) and a PT76 (like an APC, but more like a modern Scout Track) spotted near the MangYang. (who am I tellin'?? you guys prolly saw those thangs at Plei Trap, Ben Het, DakTo/DakPek/DakSeang, etc..

Someone I encountered at Fort Sill in '71 told me that when he left that Holloway that summer, a recoilless was mounted on one of the towers...can
anyone confirm?

I think also that some of the units which formed up in summer '65 and later became 1st Cav (Airmobile) were originally called AML units-seems like 11th Avn Grp. ?? Anyone know anyone there and then?? Prolly an answer to that in "We Were Soldiers Once... and Young", or in "Pleiku", by J.D. Coleman. Gotta read bo'fem again...

I most def remember some long, open stakebed trailers moving around the time(s) the company was pinging and ponging... they were 62nd Trans, I think from 1st Log Command near Arty Hill. Seems they had a lot of Gun trucks, too, with M2-.50s, and I even saw one with an M-33 Quad-.50 mount.

::f Peeeeee-bringers and name-takers. I'm sure the lead slingers in the air and on the ground made the travellers a LOT more comfy with their trips, especially in the Pass. ::f

Well, as usual, I'm rambling again.. :\
