We flew FOB II during August and Sept of 1968. That was the last time we pulled that duty while I was in-country. They divided the missions into two groups. Alpha was the missions we ran into Laos. Bravo were run into Cambodia. We would rotate missions between the two flight platoons. Two weeks first flight would fly Alpha and second would fly Bravo. Then we would swap. This way we would learn both operational areas in case something happened and we would have to cross over to each other's areas. The Croc's covered us on both. This paid off the night at Hotel 9 when we had to pull a night extraction. We were so far into Laos that night we damn near ran out of fuel. Tom Shook of Gator 409 will remember Hotel 9. Not a nice place at all.

As far as patches are concerned I don't remember them. I do remember carrying only our dog tags and ID cards with us when we flew. The operations Sgt. would collect all of our personal stuff before we left on a mission. We also had a debriefing after each mission and were told not to talk about the details with any one. The medal I received three years after I got out of the army for the night at Hotel 9 said we were in hostile enemy territory in a classified location. I guess they still weren't admitting we were in Laos in 1973.
