Re: Flight pay

Lumpy, I stayed for the full ride ( 20 + years).
In the early 1970s they re-worked the flight pay but as usaul they screwed it up. When I was in Nam 66-67, 69-70, 71 (TDY) they still had the old system. and I think I got 110 a monyth as a WO pilot. It does not matter. As far as I am concerned some Lts and Cpts were grossly underpaid. The best compliment I could pay some was to tell them ; they'd " Make a good Wo jug" because they had balls. I saw WOs who were beyond courage and I shamefully saw a couple who were not worth a shit. Late in the war they sent some who would never had made it earlier. both comissioned and warrant/ Most did what they had to do and some excelled beyond all expectations. I do not think it does one damned bit of good to rake over the rank structure unless you have a specific bitch about one specific individual and his rank. I can say this. IF YOU WERE IN AVIATION your GT scores were good enough for WOC or OSC, so if you chose not to go, don't gripe at those who did. Hell most of us knew draftees who had more education and better prospects than we had, BUT, at the time they chose to do the minimum to serve their time and go home. Who can blame them? I sure don't. it was a shitty war and we did the best we could.. I say God bless all who served. they are brothers!
