Bob,

Here I am. I got out of 67N20 school just before Christmas 1967. I reported to Ft. Dix NJ for deployment in Jan 1968. I arrived in Nam as a Pfc (E-3). If you arrived as an E-2 they promoted you to E-3. I worked in the hangars until Ringus got wounded and I was moved to the flight platoon. I was a crewchief for two months before I was promoted to Sp/4. When I went thur Ft. Eustis 67N20 was a eight week course. Get them in and get them out. I think they started the Sp/4 out of school after I was there.

Dave, I think you're right about the overseas pay being $8.00 a month for E-4 and below. It seems to me that we got a raise to $13.00 at E-5. I do remember the flight jumping up a big $15.00. The classic was them paying us and the largest bill in MPC was twenty dollars. So here you are with this big wad of cash and no where to spent it or even get rid of it. I remember trying to get a day off so I could go to the post office and get a money order so I could send it home. I remember we would haul the pay roll officier out to the firebases so he could pay the guys out there. He had his .45 and his bag of funny money like everybody had AR-15's and machine guns and M-79s. Did he really think that .45 would be any help if we really wanted to rob him? I don't know who was in charge of stupid shit in the army but they did a great job with some of the stuff they pulled.
