As a SGT E-5 in 1970, I was getting around $365 a month. I kept $30 a month and sent the rest home. The only thing I bought besides beer and soda was a camera and a watch off a Flying PX. As soon as I got home, paid $3,600 cash for a new 71 MACH I Mustang.
