Alan,

The book (Memoir Of A Cold War Soldier) was written by Richard E. Mack, he mentioned to me that he was the Task Force commander (1/35 & 3/12) for an operation into the Chu Pa Mountains Oct-Nov 1969. I had mentioned that during my tour we also went into the Chu Pa Mountains (Operation Sledgehammer) Jan. '69 and our Bn (1/35) was pulled out of there because two of our sister companies (A & D) were decimated (our Bn CO was also relieved of duty). I ordered a copy of his book to read about the Oct-Nov '69 operation and posted the incident regarding Camp Radcliff because it mentioned the helcopter being destroyed by a hand flare. I was still in-country at the time but I was in Nha Trang.
