The Marines are full of shit, Tom.

The Army's 8th Transportation Company (CH-21) was first in country, December 1961, long before any Marine unit, aviation or leg. I forget who the 8th became, possibly 120th AHC, when the first UH-1s arrived. The 81st Trans, which is the forerunner of the 119th, arrived late Sept, maybe Oct 1962. We were probably third in (of the Army aviation units.)

Camp Holloway, in the early days, WAS only the 119th and supporting units.

I'd be happy to write a couple of paragraphs to nail it down, but Army helicopter units were first in, period. Nobody is taking that from the 119th or from the others. People revise history without challenge and it becomes gospel. Charles Holloway was an 81st Trans CH-21 pilot, and nothing anybody else claims can change that, as if we should be arguing KIA dates. Sheesh.

The 119th had been operating in the Highlands for three years by the time the 1st Cav arrived. So much for the "First Team" horseshit.

Thanks,
Bob
