Things did not change much after my tour. I remember the ponchos as being the prefered method of carrying the dead. I remember the helpless feeling when carrying the wounded. We were not schooled in any kind of first aid so the best we could do was offer comfort and maby hold a hand. We did not have to tell the AC to push it to the limit because he was already past that.
Yes I threw many ARVINs out the door and always checked under the seats when they were gone. I also kept my 60 pointed at them until we were clear of the LZ.
I did forget one chicken shit job I hated which was flying VIPs around for a look at the Fire Bases. We flew so high you needed oxygen. It was just a waste of a Choppeer and a good air crew.
