All of our BN CO's (we had four during my tour) always lived on the firebases with us, along with the S-3 and the CSM. The CSM and other Senior NCOs always helped filling sandbags and building the new TOC every time we moved. Our first BN CO, LTC Juvenal, humped around once a month with one of the line companies for 3 or 4 days. Most of the line company 1st SGTs were always humping with the grunts. Our third BN CO, LTC Neal was only with us a couple of weeks when his LOH crashed taking off from FSB Winnie and he was KIA. Our Battalion Motto was "Deeds, not Words."
