Papasan, Don't misunderstand,I am not condeming you. Hell I aplaud your guts in quitting. I said on my second tour some of my troops used pot as an escape and I never hasseled them as long as it was off duty. I cut no slcak for an alcholic either if he was drunk on duty.You can't afford to have drunks and foul ups working on aircraft. not on my watch anyway. My real comments were about hard drugs.
Hell we all had to escape the crap once in a while. but Hard drugs were dangerous. And the users hooked others to support their habit and make a dollar. That bastard that I jaild was a big man who bullied a couple of guys into doing it. Like I said, I should have killed his ass but I trusted the system to take care of it. And by that time the system was failing. The Major transferred him to a foul up detail at brigade. (to me that was the biggest cop out) the bastards should have expanded Levenworth and and filled it with those discipline problems, but that was 'Polotically unacceptable" So they ruined a field army instead!
McNamara and his project 100,000 damned near ruined the army. To this day I think that was his intent. And the sorry generals who permitted it have only my contempt as their legacy!
