As near as I can remember the scariest thing about guard duty was waiting for the OD to try to sneak up on me. I spent more time with my M-16 facing inward that outward. I think the most miserable I ever was was on guard duty at Holloway during the monsoons, never thought I would be cold in the Nam. Rats, hell they were small ponies and the only reason they didn't pull guard was because the pit vipers kept the numbers small and most were at sick call.
