Any damned fool who sneaked up on a guard post in nam deserved to be shot. If I were checking, I went along whistling a song so they could hear me coming. I pulled officer of the guard a lot in my tours and I never sneaked up once. I was tramping and making noise so they would know it was me and not shoot. That is why I jailed that dude on the second tour. I was so loud It should have woke his butt, if not the dead, but he was off his post and zonked out of his mind.
