Re: Guard Duty

Buzz,

The type of guard we pulled was far less dangerous then the type the infantry pulled. The perimeter around Holloway had all the the wire in the world plus lights, trip flares and claymore mines. The bunkers were spaced about 100 yards apart. Three guys to a bunker. There was a trench which connected the bunkers. We got probed during Tet of 68 and they actually tried to come through the wire one night. They blow the claymores and I think we had several bad guys turn up dead in the morning. Every once in a while we would take a sniper round but nothing serious. The most problems we had was rats tripping flares or getting into hand flare battles with the guys from second flight.
