You ever get to Mang Buk, Tom?

Maybe 30, 50 klicks NE or NNE Kontum, middle of nowhere. The place and the ride to get there were just magical. Finally climb over the last ridge and there it was... whole valley looked like Shangri-La, absolutely amazing.

Land in an open field and walk into the village where the SF Team House was. Little defense but a couple of stands of wire and a barbwire gate they pulled across at night. But you go in the Team House and they had all the walls papered with centerfolds; it was amazing. Real furniture, actual room, nice. And nice wallpaper, too.

It was so nice, and the SF guys were so hospitable when we were there, that BonBon caved and let them fill Eggy and me with beer while he and the PP behaved themselves. Musta killed him.

One of those absurd little things you never forget.
