Guys I find it very hard to blame the crew chief or gunner for the pilot's F-up. Unless it was mis-direction into a stump or tree during a tight LZ operation, the rear crew and (and sometimes the other pilot) were just so much cargo while the pilot wrestled the ship to a stop. I know you guys did not feel that way and it was your ship, but if the aircraft was shot down and rolled or just mechanical problems and a bad landing area, well, the people not driving should not be blamed. I had 11 engine failures (or partial failures (bleedband), a fire in flight, and a tail rotor failure during my career and never bent an aircraft. But Never once did I go down over jungle or really bad terrain.I do remember a crew cheif once telling me to take it easy on " His " aircraft when I tapped the stinger on a fast approach, so I understand the pride you guys had in your ships. BTW I said 'Yes sir" and bought the case.
