Re: The Battle for Chu Moor Mountain

George,

From what I have I believe that Tornado red and white was Troop D 1/10th Cav. They were working out of the Oasis at the time but were supporting the 4th and their own units in the Kontum, Dak To area. The 2-1 Cav was also in the area along with part of the 173rd ABN.

That damn mountain was a pain in our butts during the entire tour of duty the 4th pulled there. It was always a staging area because it had good water and plenty of cover for the NVA. The B-52s blasted the hell out of that place during Operation Wayne Grey and the gooks were still there when we made the last assaults into the area. Dave Fogg's unit worked that area out of LZ Mary in early March 1969 and found lots of weapons and several bridges and good roads around there. I saw part of the Plei-Trap road during Operation Wayne Grey. That garbage about paths in the jungle was bull. The part I saw looked like a country road in the States. It was well packed and had a crown in the middle so the rain would run off. In some places it was two lanes wide.
