Bob , I found this ona news group.
"52nd Aviation Battalion, Pleiku

The orginal 52nd Aviation Battalion at Camp Holloway in Pleiku consisted of the Headquarters Company, and the 119th at Camp Holloway, and 117th at Quin Nhon. Headquarters Company also had a Platoon of Gunships in Da Nang to support the Marine H-34 slicks. I was a Liasion officer in Saigon for four months to send incoming troops to Pleiku, beginning in January 1964, and then transferred to Pleiku, where I was Assist. S-4, and later Assist. S-3 in charge of the Combat Command Center. I mostly flew Med Evac missions while at Pleiku. For most of the last 6 months of my tour, WO-2 Bruce Mauldin was my co-pilot. Bruce was the son of cartoonist Bill Mauldin. Bill was present in Pleiku when we had the mortar attack on February 7th, 1965. He borrowed several weapons from me, and lost two, only returning my personal 45. I left Pleiku in August, 1965. Apparently the original 52nd Aviation Battalion was re-organized, and the 179th and 187th were formed later. I have no knowledge of them, and I don't know what happened to the original companies, the 117th and 119th. After returning to the states in August, 1965, I was assigned as a Flight Instructor at Fort Wolters, and later took over as Assistant Chief of Flight Evaluation (wearing those dreaded orange flight suits!) I left the Army in April, 1967. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that was in Pleiku or Fort Wolters.
