Bob,

The 545th and the 70th became part of the 119th on 1 Jan. 1969. They changed the TO&E of all the units in the 52nd Battalion on that date. We also moved from the old company area which was located near the PX and Hot Spot to the one new area near the X-Mas tree. The service platoon of the old 119th would help the crewchief with the intermediate inspections between the 100 hr PE's and also came to the aid of the flight crews if a small problem was found during pre-flight.

Most of the crewchiefs that I knew had at one time been with the 545th before going to the flight platoons. That's where I started and also Bob Kilpatrick, Sam Stella and Ted Pemberton to name a few. I remember doing the PE's and any major work. I remember that certain things were done by the crewchief or the service platoon during the time the ships were in for maintaince but I can't remember exactly what they were.

During the time that I was in country I think they changed the TO&E three different times. I know my address changed that many times. We were the 119th AVN. CO. the 119th Assault Helicopter Co. and by the time I left we were the 119th Assault Helicopter Co. (AML). which stood for Air Mobile Light. I think most of that had to do with head counts and the amount of equipment we were authorized to have at any given time.
