Ha ha..As I recall, bah me bah beer was mostly formaldyhide (scuse the spelling). I wasn't a drinker so drank a lot of warm cokes since the ice was deadly. I was frightened by a strange world where no one spoke my language and I had to learn theirs. At the same time, I felt protected by my husband...a Marine. Spent a lot of time writing my parents on day to day observations in the strange new world My amah was like my mother and took me everywhere, taught me the language, dressed me in ao dais, etc. My 2 small boys were the ice breaker for me with the locals. The Viet Cong were around but, at that time, observed us and left us alone. We were a novelty. My baby red-head was considered almost God-like. Everyone..and I mean everyone had black hair except us! We were the only creatures who went swimming in bahing suits instead of our clothes.I didn't think about the scary things like the naplam grenades we kept locked in the bathroom or the loaded rifles locked up around the compound!
Enuf..you just brought a flood of memories about Nha Trang, etc. Am enjoying your letters.
