Letters home April 1969

April 2, 1969: The CO said I could go in for the clerks job and I did but the lieutenant colonel said all 11 Bravo's to go back to the field. Not much happening, occasional rains storm but monsoon's start in May. Tonight we have an ambush.

April 4, 1969: Today we got a Chieu Hoi (Former NVA, Le Von Thiet) assigned to our company to act as a guide. I think these guys are pretty good to have along because they can tell us if anything is out of place.

April 7, 1969: I have put in for an R&R to Hong Kong and plan on going either May or early June.

April 15, 1969: I am again enjoying myself on a 3-day rest (3-day standown at the Oasis) and then out to the field again but this time we won't have it too bad. As far as I can understand we will be providing more security for the villagers.

April 20, 1969: We are out in the jungle again this time on the plains around the villages to help protect them. The rains have not come yet but people say at the beginning of May that we can expect them.

April 23, 1969: It has been awhile since I have gotten a letter off to you we have been busy. At the end of April I will have 128 days left.

April 24, 1969: Well the word today is we are going to Ban Me Thuot. What we do or how long we stay is something I do not know.

April 27, 1969: Well in a few days we will be in monsoon season. It seems like lousy weather is coming along because there is thunder and lightning.

April 28, 1969: I found out today I did not get the R&R to Hong Kong, which I had applied for.
