I started with ILL. Bell Telephone Co. which was part of the Bell System or better known as AT&T. After the break up in 1984 we were known as Ametitech one of the baby bells. This included Ill. Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio.We were one of the leaders in the industry. The problems came from the government changing laws which made us a business rather then a utility. Greed of the CEO and other things started our fall. In 1999 we were bought by SBC which was actually the Southwestern Bell. I think their main concern was being able to establish a path in which they would be able to connect a coast to coast long distance service. So after almost twenty years things are going right back to where they were. The only trouble is now the costs are out of sight. The quality of service is in the toilet and what was once a great industry is now garbage.

I was old school. Service and make it work the best way possible. I was a cable splicer. I was both copper and fiber qualified. I put the cables together plus maintained them and did the trouble shooting and repairs. Times changed and I didn't. The funny thing is that less then two months after I retired the company wanted me to come back and teach. So about every month I give a three class and get paid twice what I getting before. Instead of a cable splicer I am now a contractor. Go figure.
