FOB II

Tom,

Got tired of jumping down the paper so I thought I'd start a new posting. How many ship were used during your time there? We would have four slicks and two guns go on each mission. One C&C ship. Two extraction or inseration ships and one chase ship in case of trouble. Plus the two gunships for cover. The slicks stayed at the compound FOB II. The gunships landed at Kontum and a couple of the slicks would ferry the Crocs over to the compound. When you were there the 57th AHC was still in the states so the airfield at Kontum was less then secure so where did the gunship stage at? I remember if we were headed into Laos the Crocs would leave first and refuel at Dak To and then meet us on station over the fence. Cambodia wasn't that far if we were headed due west. I don't remember why they collected our personal stuff before each mission but they did. It must have been a secret. Of course the army and their big secrets were a joke. It May of 68 we had the secret move of the 101st ABN into Dak To for Operation Mathews. The morning the C-130's landed the little venders were all set up selling Screamin Eagle Patches along with the beer and other stuff.
