Re: Archive Search Engine is Up

Thanks Bob,

That's a good test. If this works in an AOL browser, it will work anywhere !

I added an icon for people to obtain Adobe Reader if they do not have it. I will also be adding a "description" file for each of the .pdf files that I upload. The description file will be what populates the search results information that appears after a search and will result in the search information being a lot more informative.

I'm still trying to decide which format to use for the .pdf files Bob. The format that is up right now is actually a "recreated" document. Meaning that the documents that were scanned were actually turned into text and this is why there are numerous fonts etc. During the OCR if Adobe cannot recognize the font being scanned, it will pick one a close match to use and consequently you get what I call the "Hostage Letter" look....

The other format available creates an image of the original and a text document underneath. So you look at a document that appears just as the original did (it's actually an image of the original) but you still have the ability to search it because it has the text document referenced underneath it. This is a MUCH larger .pdf file size though and I'm stuck as to whether or not it's worth it. The larger file sizes make it a real burden for those with dial-in ISP connections.

I will have to fiddle with it and see what I can do to clean up the "Hostage Letter" format.

Thanks again for the testing.
