Car show featuring military vehicles near here today, a pal and I took the M38A1 over. A couple of hundred cars, maybe 15 military jeeps, trucks, ambulances. One guy had a towed ex-Russian anti-tank gun. Legal, feds and state paperwork completed and approved, all that. Only problem the guy had was CT Motor Vehicle Dept. Took it in to get a "Trailer" plate; the inspector took one look and said, "We don't register cannons." He finally took his case to the big boss at MVD, told him, "Look. MVD doesn't decide whether I can legally have this. The people who do that, feds and state, have already decided that I CAN have it. It is your job to determine that it is safe to tow and, if it is, issue me a plate. That is the limit of your authority. Period." The boss agreed. So they issued him a "Camper" plate.

Also met a guy who saw my "Camp Holloway" spare tire cover and found me walking around. Turns out he was 1LT or CPT CO of the Holloway Security Detachment in 71 and 72. The way he talked, I think his troops took over a couple of the 119th hooches down near the Christmas tree.
