Bob,

It was part of the job. We spend hours flying boring resupply back and forth to the firebases day after day and then one extraction would happen and you remember it like yesterday.

After Huey got Gator 519 on the ground we went in and pulled out the crew. Mr. Penny loaded Huey, Mr. Golly and three of the LRRPs in his ship. We grabbed Barker, Dana, and the rest of the LRRPs. We took all of them to the 71st Evac and then had to return to Dak To to cover the RON mission.

The following day a crew from the 545th rigged the ship and moved it from near Ben Het back to Dak To. I still don't understand why they didn't just destroy it in place. As you can see there wasn't that much left of it. I guess it must have counted as a recovered ship.

Ten days later we have to pull another team out of the same area. The result was about the same. We were shot up but were able to maintain power and made it to Ben Het. One LRRP was wounded. Mr. Taylor was the A/C that day. For a pilot who was not regarded as that talented,he shined that day.
