Connecticut is a "Right to Carry" state too, Bob.

You need to show completion of a safety course, which is easy, and nice folks have no problem (and some fun) completing the courses. Then you get a permit from your local police chief, which allows carry only in your town. You send that in to the state police, and they give you a statewide permit. No need to show a reason, need, etc.

If either authority elects not to grant the permit, your application MUST go to a state board of examiners, where the declining authority MUST show cause as to why they declined your application. Rarely gets that far. Dirtbags don't get permits; regular folks do.

Once you get the permit, you can buy a gun, do the 5-minute background approval, and walk out of the store with it. Everybody else needs to wait two weeks, then pick up the gun. No big deal. (Hunting License carriers can buy a long gun without the wait.)

Most of the time it works, in other words. Sometimes, in extremely rare cases, it doesn't. The lefties still do not acknowledge that the bad guys do not carry legally; only nice folks do.

Massachusetts is ridiculous for registration and carry. Total commie.

Vermont, if you can lift it, you're welcome to carry it, and New Hampshire and Maine are close behind.

Contrary to our perceptions (other than Massachusetts and New York City), the Northeast isn't too bad. Crusty yankee legacy, probably.
