Tom,
This is a tough time of year on me too. 35 years ago today I was in the hospital at the 37th EVAC. 1 Nov 68 was the day that the "Lady Janell" (66-16519) was shot out from under me in the vicinity of hill 875, and she held together for me until we crossed over firebase 29 where she gave up the ghost, but she stayed together enough for all of us to live. That day was about 30 seconds ago, I can still remember every shake, shudder, light and sound in that bird. I can also remember "Deacon" screaming at the Pink Panthers for not covering us, he was enroute from Dak To and Everyone was on the radios telling of the progress of my aircraft. Penny was saying that he had my back, he was the first on the ground after we hit the ground. He was also telling me that the bird was on fire, flames were coming out of the engine. BROTHER, IT JUST HAPPENED, THE BLADES ARE STILL SPINNING EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE SPLIT FROM HERE TO HELL AND GONE, AND THE DUST STILL HASN'T SETTLED.

I am still seeing Charlie roll the trees off of that damn 23MM and I still see the walls that were coming at us after each flash from that barrel.

IT JUST HAPPENED
Huey
