** Nowhere does it indicate that they were known as the 119th AHC while in Vietnam. **

That's correct George. They were not.

Part of the confusion is my fault. The 119th was deactivated in Vietnam, in the Fall of 1970.

Sometime in the late 1970s, in the States, the 119th was reactivated and assigned to the reactivated 269th Combat Aviation Bn.

In July 1979, the 119th and the 129th Assault Helicopter companies were redesignated as A and B Companies of the new 82d Combat Aviation Bn.

In January 1987, the 82d Aviation Brigade was activated, with the former A and B Companies becoming the 135th and 183rd Assault Helicopter Cos., then later that same year those two companies were reassigned to the provisional 2nd Bn, 82d Aviation Regiment as, once again, A and B Companies. 2nd Bn, 82nd Aviation Regiment was officially activated two years later.

The "Redhawk" name was associated with the 119th for just that short time after Vietnam, after reactivation at Ft. Bragg, but it is still used by A Co., now in Iraq.
