if you are watching the last few minutes of an auction, you can "refresh" your screen a few times per minute and see the latest bid,(it's FASTER than going back to the "bids" screen) if it gets down to final fast- and- furious- bidding..

also, there is a way (help me here, folks,.. whatzit called?) to bid ahead (an artificial cap/maximum bid???) in small increments, and as long as your incremental bidding beats the highest competing bid, the final amount will go no higher, and you win!!!

clear as mud? someone's gotta know this better than I can explain it...
